What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of individuals of all ages. The creative process offers an outlet for self-expression and helps to resolve conflicts, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress and impulsivity, increase self-esteem/awareness, and alter the brain state to improve overall functioning. Art therapy is simply another avenue of self exploration and discovery to assist in a variety of areas including unmet potential, depression, anxiety, attention deficits, low impulse control, substance abuse, self harm, marital conflict, strained relationships, career dissatisfaction, autism, failing physical health,etc. All ages and populations can benefit from art therapy: adults, adolescents, children, individuals, couples, and families.
